1. What is WeChat?

WeChat is a social media and multi-purpose platform and mobile payment app developed by Tencent to take the online social experience to a whole new level of user experience. WeChat app itself does have a wide range of features in the app.

Initially, the WeChat had messaging social media services and later introduced the cashless mobile money solution to its users. Billions worth of transactions are happening via WeChat were the users find it's easy and reliable to use.

2. History

WeChat is launched on 1st January 2011 by Tencent focusing the Chinese users. Initially, WeChat was started as a Research project in 2010 October as the name of Weixin. In 2012 WeChat received 100 million users and Tencent re-branded the solution as WeChat as they were required to reach the global markets.

WeChat grew in the business as the government wanted to support the e-commerce platforms which could support e-commerce solutions.
