1. What is Microsoft Azure?

Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing service and a platform created and developed by Microsoft Inc. Azure offers cloud computing services, testing service, deploying, and managing applications on a layer of Microsoft's managed data centers.

The three major products that Azure offers are Software as a Service also known as SaaS, Platform as a Service also known as PaaS and Infrastructure as a Service also known as IaaS. Microsoft does offer Linux based operating systems that are free to use other than the paid operating systems like Microsoft OSs.

2. History

Azure is a project initiated under the code name of Project Red Dog in October 2008. Microsoft Inc made the platform available on the 1st of February 2010 under the brand name of Windows Azure and the platform got re-branded as Microsoft Azure on 25th March 2014.
