After introducing the second-generation cellular networks in the industrial markets, there was similar advancement took place in the core modules to serve the customers with better features.
What is 2.5G?
2.5G is 2.5 Generation cellular network. The technological advancement came in the progress of advancement to carry more data load faster than the previous technology. 2.5 generation technology added a feature into the industry named, GPRS which also known as General Packet Radio Service. What General Packet Radio Service or the GPRS capable is, it's capable enough to transmit and receive data which is more than a voice call or a Short Message. An image from another sender inside the short message service.
Sending an image or a sound clip via a similar service like a short message service got the name as Multimedia Message Service which is also known as MMS.
Why 2.5G?
2.5G or the General Packet Radio Service or the GPRS enabled the capability of cellular mobile users to send more data rather than a voice call to another party who is using a similar 2.5G network. The efficiency of the data transfer rates and the speed of the transfer rates and the amount of data that can be transferred by the network got increased.
Technology
GPRS or the general packet radio service enhanced the 2nd generation cellular mobile communication technology and elevate it to the 3rd generation networks.GPRS enabled to build transmission link more efficiently in downloads and uploads from the device. To enhance the download and the upload speed, GSM developed GPRS to based on Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and TDMA. This allows the device owner to transmit and receive data based on frequency basis.
Advantages
Due to the capability of sending more characters or data by wireless cellular networks, the usage of the device and the network got broad. Due to the enhancements in the speed of the wireless cellular network which is based on 2.5G or GPRS, the number of devices got changed to 2G capable devices in the market.Due to allowing more features and functionalities to the end-users, the telecommunication industry had many opportunities to sell to the customers rather than airtime via voice or short message services.
